Ronald Murphy

Biography

Ron has been working on information modeling and communication protocols for more than 25 years in the fields of electronic mail, network management, client-server architectures, and SOA, encompassing standards as diverse as ASN.1, SNMP/CMIP, OSI Directory, SOAP, XML Schema, and XACML. Ron was a primary developer for eBay's SOAP-based Trading API web service which is used by 70,000 applications worldwide and is the single biggest input method for eBay item listings.

More recently, Ron spearheaded the architecture and implementation of a custom SOA software development suite currently in use within eBay by many engineering teams. Now a manager for the SOA Framework team at eBay, Ron participates in many areas of eBay's SOA program, ranging from service policy development and governance, to service deployment models and production site support.

Prior to working at eBay, Ron developed software for both larger companies such as 3Com, where he specialized in the architecture and development of large-scale, carrier-class network management systems; and pre-IPO startups such as ObjectStream, where he helped architect and implement a model-based, CORBA-driven distributed object framework.
